I studied for my BBA for three and half years before deciding to get a BA in Communications/Ad Design. I went to a truly excellent university that, basically, trained us like soldiers to be excellent marketers. So much so that it has taken me almost 12 years (don’t you dare do the math on my age!) to recognize that, though what I learned was valuable, the guerilla marketing philosophy is not one that can yield the type of results I desire.

I desire to make a connection with people and find a out what they really need and truly give them what they want in the area of graphic design. What I mean is, when they see the final product, I want their face to LIGHT UP! If that doesn’t happen, then it’s not a success to me.

Push, Push, Push. Sell, sell, sell. Buzz word, buzz word. Does not fit into this strategy.

Keep in mind the words of Eben Pagan, “Nothing is for sale until the client is ready to buy.” Therefore, you might as well just enjoy your relationship with your prospects and get to know them. I know that’s hard to do when you’ve got mouths to feed including your own but the hard sell just cannot work well in today’s environment and when it is "successful" it often ends in buyer's remorse which will tarnish your reputation even if the product you delivered was excellent.

There are too many alternatives and so much information available. Consumers are smarter, numbed to those tactics, and annoyed by “salesmen” of any kind.

So BOOST YOUR SALES TODAY! (last time, I promise) by not selling and just being an expert in your field. Read the blog "How to Make Sales All Around You: Be the expert in your circle."

Please tell us what you think!
