Some say that just around bend, lies your next wave of success and in the words of Stevie Nicks, thunder really does only happen when it’s raining.
So how do you hang in there for the rough spots when things look really bad? If you have an aerial view of what is really happening you’d see that all you have to do is hang on and get through this rough patch.
Number one: breathe
Getting stressed out is only going to makes everything worse. It will also take you off your game. You already know that if your eyes are focused on the problem you will not be able to see the solution. Another major drawback of looking at the bad for too long is that it begins to discourage you from seeing the fact that you do have the ability to change the situation.
Some say it is unrealistic, let us say it is proactive. It is not that you are pretending the problems are not there, you are simply spending your time and energy focused on how to solve them.
Number two: rest
Trust me I know. Slowing down seems like the absolute worst thing you can possibly do when you’re in a situation like this. However, that simply is not so. Resting allows you to see things more clearly, renew your mind and stir up creativity, and it energizes you allowing you to do more than you would if you continued to work around the clock trying to solve the issues.
Number three: simplify
Clear out everything that does not need to be there. If you are trying to promote multiple products or services, cut down your product list. Focus only on the thing you do best and focus on the things that have produced the greatest results for you in the past.
Number four: do something different
We all get so trapped in our patterns and stuck on the habits that got us where we are at this moment but we’ve got to recognize that whatever we did to get where we are did not work and must be changed so that the outcome can be changed. How do you know what to change to? Do some research to find out what has been working for others and then tweak it to fit your brand and what you have to offer.
Number five: celebrate
I don’t know about you but I probably obtain anywhere from 2 to 3 victories each and every day that deserve some form of acknowledgement and celebration. However, instead of stopping to cherish the moment, I continue moving forward and rarely ever give notice to my small to medium sized victories because they are not my end-goal victory.
This type of behavior creates a situation where no matter how well I perform I will never be able to celebrate the success is until I reach the endpoint. Though this sounds logical in some ways, it is very illogical because, as entrepreneurs, whenever we are approaching an objective that we have set, we have a tendency to set a new objective and just continue moving forward past the success of our original goal in order to start acquisition of the next. This creates a situation where if we only plan to celebrate our end goal victories, we never will have the opportunity to do so because we are continually creating new goals as we accomplish the previous goals.
Bottomline: Put your back into getting where you want to go but don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
Set one thing to accomplish today that you have been trying to get done for weeks. Do it. Stop working for the day. And then celebrate!
